TK Days: September 8 – 11

I hope you enjoy this weekly blog post. Please check in each week to see what happened in our 206 TK life!

A Look Back at our First Week

I can’t believe the first week is already over! Many excited (and maybe a little scared) faces walked in on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Hickson and I were so excited to meet our new family for this school year! This week, we were able to do some art, learn many new procedures in our class and during snack and recess, made lots of new friends, read some great stories, practiced math concepts and did our first pieces of writing! What an exciting and busy week! Our first day photos are posted on the gallery page! Here are a couple highlight photos from our first day ! (Thank you Mr. Blake for the time you spent coming to photograph these beautiful faces).

Fire Drill

Friday we had our first Fire Drill and the kids did really great considering it was not only their first one, but the 4th day of school. The alarm went off and the kids all walked out to our line with the rest of the school. Mr. Morici checked in on each grade and gave us a thumbs up! Next time we are working to stay even closer in line so we don’t get separated even for a moment…its so hard as its so interesting for them to watch all the other classes heading out!

Thank You

Thank you so much for all your support this week. We also want to thank you for making it out to Back to School Night. We know it was a busy week and that you had a lot of information given to you that night, which is why we appreciate you taking the time. Thank you for all the great questions and feedback regarding this evening. Please keep the packet as a reference to use through the year.

If you weren’t able to make it to Back To School Night please, see the packet that was sent home with you and contact either Mrs.Hickson or I regarding any questions you may have.

(That night we spoke about Mindsets…I will be writing a separate post regarding this topic with the link I mentioned).

Reminders

Backpacks – Please make sure your student has a large (non-rolling) backpack to put all their materials in each day. If they have a small backpack they struggle to be independent in putting away their own snack, lunch, folder (or they have to bend items to fit everything in).

Thursdays – Thank you for your patience as we all work out the kinks. On Thursdays, your student will have one eating/play time as on other days, the only differences are that the time is at 11:35 (instead of 10:40) and if your child is buying from the cafeteria, they will have lunch food options as opposed to snack/breakfast food options. If your child attends SAY on Thursdays, they will still have another time to eat a late snack/lunch in the afternoon if they choose, you will just need to send it in their backpacks as the cafeteria will be closed.

Volunteers – We still have some open volunteer positions left (listed below). Please see me if you are interested. Make sure you get your TB test/Cleared paperwork in to Nurse Dee.

  • Jog-A-Thon Coordinator – Communicate event information to parents in our class, coordinate class volunteers for the day of the event, distribute jog-a-thon t-shirts, bibs, and count class laps.
  • Folder Helper (Tuesdays and Thursdays Only) – Empty folder contents in the morning just after school starts, and fill with any new papers. (Thank you Megan Black for covering Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays!)
  • Classroom Volunteer Time – A flyer will go home in the next two weeks regarding classroom volunteering (prepping materials, reading with students, etc…during class instruction time). We will start classroom volunteers at the end of the month as to let our students adjust to the new classroom and procedures. Thank you in advance for all who have already said they will be able to volunteer!
