Schedule Success!
This past week we had a new schedule! It was a success in that student’s weren’t online as long, students were able to talk more and slowly are getting to know each other. If you have feedback (positive or constructive) please take a moment to share your thoughts and feedback! I am loving getting to know the kids better and that they are getting to know each other better despite the challenges we don’t typically deal with!
Synchronous Work:
Throughout the week students will read have Reading, Writing and Math about 3 times a week in small groups rather than in whole class.
- Writing – We practice phonetic spelling which forces children to rely on listening to the sounds they know and hear from their own voice. Do your best to not spell words for your child. It can be a challenge but they do stop asking when they realize you don’t spell words for them.
- Reading – We read picture books together to do deeper thinking and questioning about the character, their feelings and how they react. In addition we practice reading leveled books by looking at the pictures to think about the story and then practicing the read.
- Math – For math we are focusing on the district Distance Learning lessons. In addition, we will be doing problem of the day after the next Distribution Day.
Asynchronous Work This Week:
As we have worked a schedule to limit student online time, try to get practice on these platforms for student practice.
- ST Math (15 minutes) Tuesday/Thursday – 2 – 3 Days a week
- RAZ Kids (15 minutes) Mon./Wed./Fri. – 3 – 5 Days a week
- Seesaw – Assigned activities for whole class and/or Penguin Groups (Royals, Emperors, & Kings).
Sight Words
Orange words begin this week on the first of October! Aim to make sure your child can fluently read every RED word without any sounding out or hesitation. This is a strong foundation for the early reading books and will boost your child’s confidence as they begin to read the early leveled books.
We will do a quick check on RED words in October. If you already know all the RED and/or ORANGE words, have your child practice writing them out of memory.
SEL Lessons
Every Monday we will have our Social Emotional Lessons (SEL). Some of these lessons are on Racisim and Social Justice. The remainder and majority of the lessons are a program named Second Step in which we discuss social emotional topics about feelings.
Photo/Web Release Form
We are still missing Photo/Web release forms for our class. This allows us to post the pictures we have to our website or on our Facebook Page
