Character Ed. – Gratitude
Kathleen Nguyen came in this week to speak with the class about Gratitude. She reminded them of the meaning of the word Gratitude and how it means to be thankful or appreciative. Afterwards, she had the kids pass around a bag of items. Each child that was holding the bag, named a letter from the word: G-R-A-T-I-T-U-D-E. Every time we spelled the word, the person who was holding the bag would take an item out of the bag and name what it was and why we were thankful for. Finally as we finished going through the items the students went back to their seats to write what they were thankful and illustrate a picture about it.
Take some time this month to continue discussing the word GRATITUDE and what we are thankful for!
Fine Artists
This week our students were so lucky to participate in Fine Artists where they made a “Tom Cat.” Check out these beautiful pieces of art!
Writing Mini-Lessons
We continue to review mini lessons on the areas of writing that we commonly see the students needing as next steps. These are few examples:
- Two Finger Spaces – Spaces between words to make the words more readable.
- Matching Picture to Writing – Making sure the picture has details and matches the words.
- Stretching Words – This is the time we use the phrase…”Sound it out” or “stretch it out.” We have also talked about “tug and write” as they tug on each sound and write the letter that matches the sound.
